ICE OUT!
Mission: Put pressure on local officials to take a stand against ICE; pressure DHS to end barbaric, un-American gestapo tactics; support, protect and serve the immigrant community.
Goal: A public condemnation of ICE’s tactics by local governments and the end of DHS’s cruel enforcement.
On November 23rd, Cascade Forward organized a spontaneous protest against ICE. One member of our group said they intended to protest, and over a hundred more joined when we sent out the call to join him. We then expanded to a citywide protest on December 7th, and a Unity March on December 13th. Students in Cowlitz County then said they wanted to organize one, too.
ICE OUT is the name we’re giving to this protest movement. It may not make it further than a few events in our small county, but we intend to facilitate all the ICE OUT events we can. We’ll make graphics, flyers, social templates, and protest information available for download on this page and be available to consult for anyone who wishes to start their own ICE OUT protest!
The Philosophy of ICE OUT!
When all else failed the Trump administration, they fell back on the only campaign promise they’ve ever been able to deliver on - cruelty. In the season of hope and light, the MAGA movement has taken to abducting fathers from their homes, or on their way to work, and separating families like they’ve always done.
When ICE showed up in Longview, Kelso, Woodland…the people of the 19th had had enough. We have been organizing large protests against the tactics used by ICE and the DHS. Immigration law is what it is, but when a country is more concerned with tearing immigrant families apart than it is with caring for its own citizens, priorities have gotten out of whack.
The Trump government has shown itself to be ineffective and incapable of any form of governance that does not revolve around violence and cruelty.
We stand with the hard-working people who make our communities better, even if they did not arrive here the “right way.” We believe that the law is unjust if this is what its enforcement looks like. While fully documented citizens loot and pillage our government in front of our eyes, we will not fall prey to the ancient scapegoating tactics. It’s the classic government slight-of-hand; “keep your eyes focused on the immigrants and you won’t see us picking your pocket!” Or, as the MAGA crowd hopes, if we’re all worried about immigrants then maybe we will stop caring about the Epstein files, the failing economy, the disastrous foreign policy (if it can even be called that), the attacks on military heroes, and the general irresponsible and frankly immature leadership of the sad, partially melted lump of fast food cheese that occupies the White House.
